If you live in colder states, this time of year can feel like forever when your little ones are bouncing off the walls with energy! When the weather keeps you indoors, having a go-to list of activities can be a lifesaver.

1. Sensory Bins

Keep in mind, this may get messy BUT will be lots of fun for your kiddos. Fill a container with uncooked rice or beans and add in toys they love, such as dinosaurs, small dolls, plastic food, fake coins and more! The options are endless! Kids will be digging forever and clean up for the most part is pretty easy. Be sure to watch closely if you have little ones around for choking hazards.

2. Music and Dance Party

Blast some kid-friendly tunes and have a dance party! Not only is it a fantastic way to get the wiggles out, but it’s also a sneaky way to get your little ones tired so you can wind down too (wink).

3. Indoor Obstacle Course

Turn your living room into an adventure zone with pillows, cushions, chairs, and blankets. Create tunnels to crawl through, balance beams with tape on the floor, and jumping spots with soft cushions. It’s a great way to burn off energy without stepping outside.

4. Indoor Scavenger Hunt

Hide small toys or objects around the house and create a simple list or clues for your kids to follow. This game is both exciting and helps develop problem-solving skills.

5. Fort Building

Grab some sheets, pillows, and chairs to build the ultimate indoor fort. Let your kids decorate it with fairy lights or stuffed animals. Bonus: it doubles as a quiet reading or napping nook.

6. Art & Craft Time

Keep a stash of markers, construction paper, stickers, and glue handy for impromptu craft sessions. From making paper crowns to drawing their dream worlds, it’s an excellent way to spark creativity.

7. Cooking or Baking Together

Bring the kids into the kitchen to help make simple snacks like mini pizzas or cookies. They’ll love mixing ingredients and sneaking a taste, and it’s a great way to teach basic cooking skills.

8. Movie Theater at Home

Transform your living room into a cozy theater with blankets, pillows, and popcorn. Pick a family-friendly movie and let everyone unwind together.

Tips to Keep Mom Sane:

  • Rotate activities to keep things fresh and exciting.
  • Embrace the mess—cleaning can wait until after the fun.
  • Take mini breaks for yourself during activities like sensory play or movie time.

By planning a few of these activities, you’ll create memorable moments for your kids and keep those long indoor days from feeling endless. Happy playing!
